The Sea Terrace cabin on Virgin Voyages is the most common room type, making up 86% of all rooms onboard.
With 185 square feet of space, a private balcony, and a modern design, this is the standard accommodation that most sailors will experience.

However, as much as some people love these cabins, others have major complaints.
The good news? Most of these issues have easy fixes—the key is knowing what to ask for and how to take full advantage of the room’s features.
In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to know about staying in a Sea Terrace room, including what to expect, the best tips for making your stay better, and the top complaints people have (along with their simple solutions).

What to Expect in a Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace Room
The Sea Terrace cabin is designed for functionality and relaxation. Every room comes with a private balcony, a customizable lighting system, and a signature Seabed that can transform from a bed into a couch-like seating area.

One thing to know before booking is that all Sea Terrace rooms on Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, and Resilient Lady are nearly identical.
The only real difference is that Resilient Lady has a slightly more neutral color scheme compared to the others.
Essential Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Sea Terrace Room

1. Use the Tablet to Control Everything in Your Room
One of the most underrated features of a Sea Terrace cabin is the room’s tablet, which acts as a control center for the entire space.
With the tablet, you can:
- Adjust the lighting and mood settings to create the perfect ambiance.
- Control the temperature of the room.
- Open and close the balcony curtains automatically—perfect for mornings when you don’t want to get out of bed.
- Access free movies that are included with your sailing.
- Request services from your room attendant, such as fresh towels, laundry pickup, or extra pillows.
Many first-time sailors don’t realize just how helpful this tablet is. Rather than adjusting everything manually, you can do it all from the comfort of your bed with just a few taps.
Personally, I sleep with the tablet on my bedside table.
2. Talk to Your Room Attendant and Fulfill Any Requests
Many people simply say hello to their room attendant on the first day and never interact with them again. But if you take a few minutes to chat with them when you arrive, you can make your stay significantly more comfortable.
Here are a few things you should consider requesting:
- Extra hangers if you have a lot of clothing. The closet space is great, but additional hangers make it easier to stay organized.
- Daily ice delivery if you like having cold drinks in your room.
- Still or sparkling water based on your preference. Water is included in your fare, so take advantage of it.
- A mattress topper if you find the bed too firm (more on this in the complaints section).
- A steamer if you need to freshen up clothing. Since irons aren’t allowed onboard, this is the best option.

Most people don’t realize they can ask for these things, so they end up struggling with small inconveniences that could have been avoided.

3. Know Where to Find Extra Storage in Your Room
One of the biggest surprises about the Sea Terrace room is that it has more storage space than most people realize.
While the closet is the obvious storage area, there are several hidden spots where you can keep your belongings:
- Under the bed: This is a great place to store suitcases, backpacks, and other large items.
- Above the closet: There’s additional shelf space for smaller bags, hats, or folded clothing.
- Drawers inside the closet: Many people miss these pull-out drawers, but they are helpful for organizing smaller items.
- Pullout storage by the desk: Perfect for keeping chargers, books, or other personal items.
- Bathroom shelving: There’s a small ledge inside the bathroom that is great for toiletries and skincare products.
By utilizing these storage spaces, you can keep your room feeling clean, uncluttered, and comfortable throughout your sailing.

Don’t forget to pack THIS!
Virgin Voyages has reimagined sailing and what you need to pack on for this trip is DIFFERENT than a normal cruise line. There are many items I wish I knew to bring (that I didn’t have with me on my first sailing).

Common Complaints About the Sea Terrace Room (and Easy Fixes!)
1. The Bed is Too Hard
The bed is one of the most divisive aspects of the Sea Terrace room. Some people love it, while others find it uncomfortable. The good news? There’s a simple fix.
- If you find the mattress too firm, ask for a mattress topper. This softens the bed significantly.
- If you need to separate the bed into two singles, your room attendant can do this in minutes.

1a. The Bed Should be TWO beds!
Another common one: I’m not sleeping in one bed with the person I’m sharing a room with! How DARE they give us one bed!
Well, it only takes a few minutes for them to split the beds. So just tell your room attendant and they’ll take care of it!

2. The Room is Too Hot
Many people complain about the air conditioning not working properly in their Sea Terrace room. But in most cases, this is actually user error.
If the balcony door is not fully locked, the AC will not turn on. Even if the door looks shut, you need to turn the handle to fully engage the lock.
For an extra cooling tip, close the blackout curtain before leaving the room so less heat builds up during the day.
3. The Soap Situation
Some cabins have liquid soap, while others have bar soap. If you prefer liquid hand soap and only have bar soap, I always just reach into the (it’s RIGHT THERE) shower and use the body wash. Easy!
4. People Don’t Like the Room Colors
Some sailors complain that the colors in the Sea Terrace room are too bold. If you prefer a more neutral color palette, the best option is to book a Sea Terrace on Resilient Lady, which has a slightly softer design.

I’m going to be honest: I’m a super savvy traveler and I didn’t believe travel agents could get a better deal than me..
