If you’re getting ready to set sail on an unforgettable cruise with Virgin Voyages, make sure you do the FIRST party right!
One of the most exciting events to kick off your journey is the Sail Away Party, where you’ll be introduced to the Happenings Cast, get free sail away bubbles to cheers with and be entertained.
Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or this is your maiden voyage, read on for some tips to ensure you make the most of this celebration.
Sail Away Party Timing
Ensure you’re on deck by 5:45 p.m. to take advantage of complimentary bubbles provided by Virgin Voyages.
It’s one of the FEW times they give away free drinks (yes there are others, but this one is the biggest free for all).
The party officially starts at 5:30 p.m., but arriving a bit early allows you to mingle with fellow passengers and immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere.
Where to Enjoy Your Sail Away Party
Head to the 15th or 16th floors, specifically the pool area, where you’ll get the most action. Be sure to arrive before 6:00pm to catch the best part of the entertainment.
I’ll be honest, even when I attended the sail away from Richard’s Rooftop (exclusive to those with Rockstar status), I ended up going to the main sail away party because I love the fun party vibe and music from the DJ.
Curious if Rockstar status is for you? You can read more about that in this blog post.

What Happens If the Weather Is Bad?
Don’t let bad weather dampen your spirits.
In case of rain or adverse conditions, the party seamlessly transitions indoors to the 7th and 6th floors near the Roundabout area.
While the setting may differ, the there is still a celebration (and free bubbles).
The Sail Away Pre Party with Social Sailors
Solo travelers or social sailors, Virgin Voyages has something for ya!
Virgin Voyages hosts a social sailor (or solo sailor) meetup at 5:15 p.m., facilitated by the Happenings Cast.
This pre-party gathering offers an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow solo sailors and kickstart your voyage on a social note.
Check the daily itinerary for the location (on the app) to find out where it’s being held (generally it’s the Athletic Club on the 16th deck if it’s nice out and at Loose Cannon on the 7th deck if the weather is not favorable).
An Option for a Quieter Sail Away
Seeking tranquility amidst the festivities? Head to the back of the boat on the 15th floor for a great sail away view or the secluded daybeds on the 7th floor at The Dock.
These serene spots provide an alternative vantage point to enjoy the sunset over Miami in peace – and don’t forget, your balcony is another option!
Have a bottle of wine delivered and grab some cheese and charcuterie (or other bites) to go from The Dock House, The Galley on the 15th deck or from The Pizza Place on the 7th
Don’t forget to pack THIS!
Virgin Voyages has reimagined sailing and what you need to pack on for this trip is DIFFERENT than a normal cruise line. There are many items I wish I knew to bring (that I didn’t have with me on my first sailing).
