If you’re cruising with Virgin Voyages cruise line and headed to the Caribbean on, you can guarantee a stop at the Bimini Bahamas cruise port.
Get excited! This might be one of your (most beautiful and) favorite stops on the itinerary.
Read on for helpful tips for both visiting the beach club as well as other excursions and things to do on this beautiful island.

Where is Bimini Bahamas?
Before we head to Bimini, I’m sure you’re wondering – where exactly in the Bahamas is it?
Bimini is located in the westernmost part of the Bahamas, just 50 miles east of Florida, making it the nearest Bahamian island to the United States.
Comprising two main islands, North Bimini and South Bimini, along with several smaller cays, Bimini is easily accessible for those in search of a quick tropical getaway. Its strategic position not only offers stunning Atlantic Ocean views and exceptional sunsets but also provides a rich array of activities, from exploring its vibrant marine life and pristine beaches to delving into the island’s intriguing history.
This is a great place to spend time in and on the water!
Which means that weather is important, so read on for more info on that…
The Weather Can Affect Your Trip to Bimini Bahamas
If you’re wondering how the weather might affect your vacation, to be honest, it’s important for the Bimini Bahamas Cruise Port.
More or less the majority of options are outdoor adventures, so it depends on the weather being to your liking. I have visited when the weather was NOT nice and it definitely made a difference in my ability to enjoy time in the water (it was too cold, gray and windy).

What Weather Can I Expect in Bimini?
The weather in Bimini, Bahamas, is typically tropical and varies slightly throughout the year:
- Winter (December to April): Cooler with temperatures ranging from 70°F to 77°F. Ideal time for visitors looking to avoid colder weather back home.
- Summer (May to November): Warmer, with average temperatures in the mid-80s to low 90s°F. Expect higher humidity and brief rain showers in the afternoon.
- Swimming and Water Activities: The ocean temperature is warm year-round, suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and diving.
- Packing Tips: Bring light clothing for the day, sunscreen for protection, and a light jacket for cooler evenings, especially in winter. More info in the FAQs about what to pack.
Plan your visit according to your weather preference and pack accordingly to enjoy everything Bimini has to offer.

What is the Virgin Voyages Beach Club?
Contrary to what most people think, the beach club is not accessible to just anyone. It’s a private beach club in which only the travelers sailing with (Virgin Voyages) can visit.
Located a short (and free) shuttle ride away. The beach club is a sprawling oasis with multiple pools and access right on the beach.
The shuttle DOES have other stops (in case you want to explore elsewhere, more on that below with ideas of other things to do in Bimini Bahamas).

The beach club caters to all, from solo travelers seeking quiet moments to party-goers looking for excitement. There’s a spot for everyone, from hammocks for relaxation to engaging beach games for some fun competition.

- You have the ability to book cabanas for a fee (there are a lot of them, but they do sell out) – this can be done via the app

What is the BEST Time to Arrive at the Beach Club?
The first and possibly the most crucial tip is this: be at the pool party by 1 PM. This is when the atmosphere hits its peak, transforming the beach club into a vibrant epicenter of fun.
It’s tempting to wander or indulge in the culinary offerings too early, but remember, the action is near the DJ’s booth from 1 PM to 3:30 PM, where the full experience unfolds and The Happenings Cast comes out.
If you want a floatie, the key is to stand near the DJ booth at 1pm where they are handing them out (get in the pool)!

But wait! There’s more. After the Float On party, keep an eye out for the beach games. They’re really fun!
And definitely don’t miss out on the food. Read on for that.
Don’t Miss the FOOD at the Virgin Voyages Beach Club
One thing not to miss out on: the food. Many people don’t realize food is being served! And a reminder: the food IS INCLUDED!
At the Virgin Voyages Beach Club, enjoying the food is as much a part of the experience as the sun and sea. Here are some tips to ensure you get the most out of your dining experience:
- Don’t Miss the Meal Times: Food is served during specific hours, especially important if you’re attending the pool party. Plan to eat after enjoying the pool activities.
- Explore the Menu: The Beach Club offers a variety of dishes. Must-tries include:
- Crispy cassava fries with a unique sauce
- Pumpkin curry for a taste of the islands
- Jerk chicken and red beans and rice for a hearty meal
- Check for New Items: The menu periodically updates, so look out for new dishes that might catch your eye.

If you’re a rockstar, they’ll come serve you table side in the Rockstar Quarters. Otherwise, head over to the dining area for grab and go style dining.

Must Pack Items for Bimini Bahamas
The sun is VERY hot in the Bahamas, it’s one of the only places in the world I get a sunburn, so don’t let this be the day you skimp on sunscreen!
Do consider the environment if you’re headed in the water and get reef-safe sunscreen. Click here to see some some top selling ones.
Here’s your pack list:
- Sunscreen: A must-have to protect your skin from the intense Bahamian sun. Opt for broad-spectrum and high SPF, preferably water-resistant. These are the top selling sunscreens on Amazon.
- Lightweight Clothing: Pack breathable fabrics to stay comfortable in the warm climate. Include swimwear, cover-ups, and casual outfits for dining and exploring.
- Hats and Sunglasses: Essential for sun protection during your outdoor adventures.
- Light Sweater or Jacket: Useful for cooler evenings or air-conditioned places.
- Footwear: Sandals for the beach, water shoes for snorkeling, and comfortable walking shoes for exploration.
- Snorkeling Gear: Bring your own for convenience and a perfect fit, allowing you to explore Bimini’s underwater beauty anytime.
- Waterproof Bag/Case: Protect your phone and camera from water damage, especially handy during boat excursions or poolside relaxation.

Other Things to Do at Bimini Bahamas Cruise Port
If you’re looking to explore beyond the Virgin Voyages Beach Club, there other alternatives that people do. The first one is…
Rent a Golf Cart and Explore the Island
One of the most popular ways to explore Bimini is by renting a golf cart and driving around at your own pace.
The island is just seven miles long, making it easy to explore in a couple of hours. Many rental vendors are at Fisherman’s Village, and while prices are negotiable, it depends on your haggling skills.
Be prepared to drive on the opposite side of the road from the U.S.

Explore Fisherman’s Village and Buy Local Goods
The first stop on Virgin Voyages’ free tram, Fisherman’s Village, is a small area with shops, restaurants, and excursion pick-ups. If you love collecting travel souvenirs, you’ll find some local trinkets here.
However, it’s best to visit early in the day, as shops tend to close unexpectedly.
Gamble at the Hilton Resorts Casino
If you’re someone who likes to gamble you have an option on Bimini Bahamas! The Hilton Resorts World is a newer property and they have a casino with a bar.

For those looking to test their luck or escape the heat, the Hilton at Resorts World Bimini has a casino, bar, and restaurant.
While it’s an option for a rainy day, many visitors find it underwhelming. It’s a short tram ride from the port, making it an easy stop if you want a quick change of scenery.
4. Snorkel or Scuba Dive the Famous Shipwreck
Bimini is known for its stunning shipwreck dive sites, with one of the most famous being the SS Sapona Shipwreck. You can book an excursion to snorkel or scuba dive around the wreck, where you’ll see incredible marine life.
For certified divers, Bimini is also home to world-class hammerhead shark dives, making it a must-visit for underwater enthusiasts.

5. Swim with Stingrays or Dolphins
If you’re looking for an interactive wildlife experience, consider an excursion to swim with stingrays at a shallow sandbar.
Another option is boating with dolphins, where you can see these playful creatures in their natural habitat. These excursions can be booked in advance or through Virgin Voyages’ Shore Things.
6. Rent a Jet Ski or Kayak
For those who want to get on the water without getting wet, jet ski and kayak rentals are available at Fisherman’s Village. This is a great way to explore Bimini’s coastline while enjoying a bit of adventure. Be sure to book in advance, as availability depends on the sailing and weather conditions.
7. Go Deep-Sea Fishing
Bimini is known as the sport fishing capital of the world, making it a perfect destination for deep-sea fishing. Charter boats offer excursions where you can fish for big game species like marlin and tuna.
If you love fishing, this is an experience worth considering.
8. Take a Cultural & Heritage Tour
For a more relaxed and insightful experience, a guided tour of Bimini’s history is a great way to explore the island. You’ll learn about Ernest Hemingway’s time in Bimini, visit small museums, and taste authentic Bahamian cuisine.
This is a great way to connect with the island’s culture beyond its beaches.
9. Visit the Hidden Local Beach Near the Port
If you want a quieter beach experience, there’s a beautiful beach just steps from the port. While not an official “crew beach,” it’s an easy alternative to the Beach Club. The tram can drop you off here, or it’s just a short walk from the ship.
Tips for Booking Excursions in Bimini
- Virgin Voyages’ Shore Things: Booking through Virgin Voyages ensures your excursion is covered in case of itinerary changes.
- Booking Directly: Some excursions, like scuba diving, may not always be available through Virgin. You can book directly with operators but take the risk if the schedule changes.
- Weather Considerations: Bimini’s water conditions and activities can vary based on the season, so check forecasts before booking.
Whether you’re looking for adventure, culture, or a simple way to explore the island, Bimini has so much more to offer beyond the Beach Club.
Pick the experience that matches your vibe, and make the most of your time in this stunning port!
