1. Visiting the Tulum Statue Is Not Free Anymore

The Daniel Popper statue, once located on Tulum Beach Road, used to be free to visit.

However, due to the traffic and long lines, Tulum has started charging an entrance fee. As of now, expect to pay around $4 or 80 pesos from 9 AM to 5 PM, and $5 or 100 pesos from 5 PM to 10 PM. These prices might change, so be prepared for adjustments.

2. Check the Opening Hours

Unlike the 24/7 access the Tulum statue had before, now it’s located inside of an “Art Park” with opening hours.

The statue and the Art Park area are open from 9 AM to 10 PM. Make sure to arrive during these hours to avoid disappointment.

3. Be Prepared for Wait Times

Do not expect a quick in-and-out visit. The statue is popular, and you might encounter long lines, especially if a tourist bus arrives. Although there’s a sign suggesting one minute per person for photos, not everyone follows this rule. Be patient and plan for potential wait times.

4. Enter Through the Beach Road

You cannot enter the statue area from the beach. The only entrance is through the beach road. Make sure to walk out to the main road and enter through the turnstiles after paying the entrance fee.

Don’t forget to pack THIS!

Tulum is not just a “beach vacay” it’s also a JUNGLE vacation. There are many items I WISH I packed on my first trip.

5. Avoid Driving

Driving to the statue can be more hassle than it’s worth. Tulum charges for a full day of parking, regardless of how long you stay. If possible, use alternative transportation options.

6. Watch Out for Scams

Be cautious when dealing with money in Tulum. Always count your change to avoid being shorted. Some vendors might try to scam tourists, so stay alert and double-check your transactions.

7. Is It Worth It?

Whether it’s worth visiting the statue depends on how much you value the photo opportunity. If the line is too long, you might decide it’s not worth the wait. However, if you’re keen on getting that iconic shot, it’s a unique experience to include in your Tulum trip.

Bottom Line

Seeing the famous Tulum statue is a memorable experience, but it requires some planning. Expect to pay an entrance fee, check the opening hours, be prepared for potential wait times, enter through the beach road, and avoid driving if possible.

Stay vigilant to avoid scams and decide if the photo is worth the effort based on your priorities. Enjoy your visit to this iconic spot and capture some amazing memories!
