What are the best Tulum Beach Clubs and should you visit one? The short answer – there’s a lot to choose from and you DEFINITELY should visit a beach club, it’s one of the best ways to enjoy Tulum Beach.
If you’re considering visiting Tulum beach clubs, in this post I’ll share essential tips on what to expect, provide examples of food and drink prices, discuss the impact of seaweed on your experience, and recommend beach clubs with no minimum spend.
Whether you’re planning your first visit or returning to this (fast changing) place, these insights will help you make the most of your time at Tulum beach clubs.
What to Expect at Tulum Beach Clubs
Tulum beach clubs are diverse, ranging from laid-back and luxurious to lively and energetic. When you visit, be prepared for a variety of experiences.
Some beach clubs have a minimum spend depending on the season. For instance, Delek (located inside Delek Hotel) currently has no minimum spend, but this can change depending on when you visit.
Also be sure to inquire with the property you are staying at.
They often partner with beach clubs to do things like “no entrance fee” (Motto Tulum did this with a half dozen beach clubs) or discounted food and beverage (Selina Tulum Downtown did this with the Selina Tulum Beach location).
See below for an example of what The Motto Tulum did to partner with beach clubs…
One thing to note – beach clubs that are attached to a hotel will give hotel guests first priority (as they should).
However, as a non-hotel guest that is visiting, this will often mean you’ll see a COMPLETELY EMPTY beach club, but they WILL NOT seat you.
Most beach clubs will hold the majority of best seating or day beds for their guests (that may or may not ever come).
For example, Delek is also a hotel, and staying here can be quite an experience. Prices for a hotel room can range from $490 to $560 per night.
The property is fairly large, offering plenty of space and amenities. If you’re not staying at the hotel, you might have to come early to secure a spot, or wait till a specific time in which they allow guests as many of the beds are reserved for hotel guests.
Example of Prices for Food and Drinks
Read on for an example of what you might expect to pay for food and drinks at Tulum beach clubs. Places like Delek are “mid range” and other beach clubs (Vagalume, Bagatelle) you can expect to pay more.
- Wine: $25 per glass (though not the best quality)
- Moët Champagne: $324 per bottle
- Tacos: On average around $20 for three small to medium sized tacos
If you’re wondering why prices are so high – it’s because there are A LOT of tourists (with a lot of money) on Tulum Beach. Every time I’m here I expect to pay NYC/SF prices (it’s standard!). Does that mean EVERY place is like this? No! Just like you can find $1 pizza in NYC, you can find… something… somewhere… on Tulum Beach for less!
Despite the high prices for drinks, the food is generally fantastic. At Delek we enjoyed the tacos, which were a hit with everyone in our group (and I even came back a few days later).
What to Know About Seaweed
Seaweed, or sargassum, is a seasonal issue in Tulum. The seaweed conditions can vary significantly depending on the time of year. During the winter months, like now in February, the seaweed situation is much better. However, in the summertime, it can get quite bad.
Seaweed can affect your vacation experience if you’re planning to spend a lot of time on the beach or in the ocean.
It attracts mosquitoes, smells bad, and can be itchy in the water. Some beaches have nets to help manage the seaweed, which can make a big difference. If a pristine beach is crucial for your trip, it’s worth checking current seaweed conditions and looking for beaches with nets.
