Things to do in Point Loma
Whether you’re looking for adventure, shopping or relaxing with beautiful views, Point Loma has a lot to offer.
Below is some inspiration to help you plan YOUR trip!…
Visit Cabrillo National Monument
Open 365 days a year (generally from 9-5pm), visit Cabrillo National Monument for some hikes, views, tidepools and to learn about the history of Point Loma. It’s $20 per car to enter, for more info on current rates, checkout their website here.
In 1954 Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo was the first European to sail into and set foot onto the West Coast of the USA. You’ll find his monument here as well as the lighthouse. While there are tours available for the lighthouse, it is generally not open to the public to enter (but you can look from the outside).
Put on some proper shoes so you can hike around the beautiful trails and checkout the tide pools. They are generally best in the winter, but check the tide calendar so that you can at least see then at the lowest tide.
Eat and shop at Liberty Public Market
This large hall is home to 36 shops and many restaurants for you to shop, eat or drink at! See the latest list of vendors here.
A casual setting with limited indoor seating, but plenty of outdoor seating (and the nearby park) – come hungry and graze your way through the market.
And afterwards… go for a stroll at…
Liberty Station Park
A beautiful park with views of the water and the planes taking off from SAN airport. A perfect place to go for a walk (there are nice walking paths), paddle around on a BYO kayak, or enjoy a picnic in the park. Learn more about the park here.
You can also find the 52 Boats memorial. There is an elm tree planted for each of the 52 lost U.S. Navy submarines and you can stroll and learn about each of the boats. Read more about it here.

Vintage finds Vintage and Makers Market
There is no shortage of unique finds in this 23,000 square foot space at Sea Hive Station. Come here for handmade crafts, vintage finds, and everything from jewelry and clothing to books, candles, furniture and more. Open year round (not just during the holidays!).
Shelter Island
A small island (that didn’t use to be an island until the 1950s!) just 1.2 miles long. A beautiful walking path (with free parking at Grace Beach!) can be found at these coordinates on google maps. Try looking at it using the satellite view!
Did you know San Diego’s sister city is Yokohama, Japan? See the friendship bell at the end of Shelter Island!
Stay at the Monsaraz Hotel
I recommend a well located (and well decorated) hotel called The Monsaraz. This boutique spot is a few blocks from the water and I LOVED my stay for it’s comfy rooms, great hotel staff and very delicious on site restaurant (which should be visited even if you’re not staying here). Checkout this post to learn more about the hotel!
