A hotel with a great location in Point Loma

Located a few blocks from the water, you can catch views of San Diego bay from the Terrace on the third floor.

This hotel is a great jumping off point to exploring the Point Loma and Downtown San Diego area.

A few things nearby:

  • Next door is the marina with popular seafood restaurants and places to jump onto tours. I considered a floating tiki boat where you can enjoy views and have some drinks

  • A 3-5 minute drive to Shelter Island where you can walk along the path, enjoy the views and catch some Polynesian vibes at the restaurants or resorts

  • A 5 minute drive to the Liberty Public Market and park area where you can enjoy the food hall, shop and walk around

  • 10-15 minute drive to the Gaslamp

  • 7-10 minute drive to Sunset Cliffs for sunset views and exploring the caves

  • 10-15 minute drive to Cabrillo National Monument where you can hike around, see the tide pools and enjoy the views

  • Also neraby are Coronado, Mission Bay and so much more

Known for its coastal California cuisine and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Here are a few things to know about Westerly:

  2. Location: The restaurant is located on the waterfront in Point Loma, with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the San Diego skyline. Its location makes it a popular spot for both locals and visitors looking to enjoy a scenic meal or happy hour.

  3. Design: Westerly has a modern and sleek design, with large windows and an outdoor patio that takes full advantage of its waterfront location. The interior features a mix of natural wood and industrial materials, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

  4. Wine and cocktails: In addition to its food menu, Westerly offers an extensive wine and cocktail list, with a focus on California wines and craft cocktails made with house-infused spirits.

The on site restaurant has great service, ambiance and delicious food. If you are a Hilton Diamond member you get $30 credit per night to dine here.

There is a really great happy hour and they often have live music. Checkout the Westerly’s yelp reviews or their latest menu on their website.

Is the Monsaraz Hotel Worth the Price?

Given how nice the property is and it’s proximity to things in the San Diego area, I was surprised at the rate I got this hotel at. I got it at under $200/night and just the next weekend stayed at The Hilton Gaslamp, which was priced at over $300/night (but was half as nice).

Learn more in this blog post about The Hilton Gaslamp.

Parking on site at the hotel was $37/night and valet only. However, there is a large ACE Parking lot across the street and street parking is free (I parked on the street).

Other hotels in the Point Loma area

There are several hotels in Point Loma that offer convenient access to the beach, local attractions, and downtown San Diego. Here are a few options:

  1. Kona Kai Resort & Spa: This waterfront resort features a private beach, a marina, and a full-service spa. The resort offers a variety of accommodations, including guest rooms, suites, and villas, all with views of the marina or the bay.

  2. Humphreys Half Moon Inn: This hotel is located on Shelter Island in Point Loma, and features a tropical island theme. The hotel offers a variety of accommodations, including guest rooms and suites, all with private balconies or patios.

  3. Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel & Marina: This hotel is also located on Shelter Island and offers views of the bay and marina. The hotel features two outdoor pools, a fitness center, and a waterfront restaurant.

  4. Bay Club Hotel and Marina: This hotel is located on the water in Shelter Island and offers views of the bay and marina. The hotel features a heated outdoor pool, a fitness center, and a waterfront restaurant.

Also nearby are a few other properties I’ve stayed at and recommend:

  1. The Hilton Gaslamp – consider staying here if you want to be able to enjoy the Historic Gaslamp Nightlife and walk (instead of using a car). Read the full blog post here.

  2. Paradise Point Mission Bay – consider staying here if you want to spend time on or in the water in Mission Bay. This is a resort style hotel (on it’s own 44-acre island) and requires a car to jump off to nearby areas. However, it is very centrally located if you are spending time in San Diego and seeing multiple tourist attractions outside of Downtown. Read the full blog post here.

The Monsaraz Point Loma has great value for the stay you’ll get. The on site restaurant is definitely worth eating at and you’ll get some quieter views in Point Loma vs. staying elsewhere in Downtown.
