A pickleball club located inside the Carlsbad Mall? That’s right!
The Pickleball Club of Carlsbad is your go-to spot for outdoor pickleball surfaces, but indoor pickleball play.
Located in what used to be the Sears building, it has now been converted into an indoor pickleball club open seven days a week.
The best part? No membership required and ALL levels (even brand new players) are welcome!
In this post you’ll find helpful information about the courts, the open play schedule and more to help you play pickleball at this location!
What are the Pickleball Facilities like at The Pickleball Club of Carlsbad?
The Pickleball Club of Carlsbad is a well-equipped facility with six dedicated pickleball courts.
Not just any ordinary courts, though, they’re specially designed outdoor surfaces, located indoors. This means you can experience the true outdoor game in a controlled environment, not worrying about the weather or daylight.
Did I mention it’s the ONLY facility like this in the San Diego area?
The club is open to all and does not require a membership to play here. You can expect a friendly, non-judgmental atmosphere for all players.
You’ll find programs for beginners to advanced players, leagues, clinics, and even private lessons (I highly recommend Coach Adam Young – pictured above).
For those new to the game, the Club offers beginner clinics, which includes a paddle if you don’t own one.

Borrowing or renting gear is an option and the Pickleball Club of Carlsbad also has a small Pro Shop, fully stocked with balls, paddles, sweat bands, and clothing.
Whether you’re dropping in for the first time, or a regular looking for some gear, the Pro Shop has you covered.
Where is The Pickleball Club of Carlsbad Located?
The Pickleball Club’s location in the old Sears building means there is tons of parking and with it’s huge sign, is relatively easy to find.
Using this google map link will take you directly to the location.
If it’s your first time to the location, expect to feel like you might be going the wrong way, but once you see the huge parking lot (with tons of parking for you!) and the Macy’s, you’re in the right location.
What are the Hours and When Open Play at The Pickleball Club of Carlsbad?
The Pickleball Club of Carlsbad is open 7 days a week 8am to 8pm and it’s drop-in play is setup in a way to make extremely easy for new visitors (and new players!) to join in.
Aptly named the ‘Power Hour’ (or hours), players can show up between 12 pm and 2 pm, Monday through Friday, and simply sign their name onto a court of their choice based on their skill level.
This system is designed to ensure everyone gets their turn to play, and players can meet and play with those of a similar skill level.
It also means you do NOT get skipped over and can easily match up with people at your level and not “accidentally” get matched up with someone that is too high above you or too low below you.
The schedule of events can be found on their website under “court calendar” by clicking here.

The Pickleball Club of Carlsbad has created an environment where beginners can feel comfortable learning and enjoying the game without fear of judgment. It’s about having fun, enjoying the play, and becoming part of their pickleball family.

Live Ball is a high-energy, fast-paced game mode, which has made its transition from tennis to pickleball at The Pickleball Club of Carlsbad. This game setup involves 8 to 10 players rotating on and off the court in teams of two.
The gameplay continues without interruption; if a team makes an unforced error, they rotate off, and the next duo immediately jumps in, ensuring constant action. It’s a very popular activity at the club with six live ball sessions each week, often sold out weeks in advance.
Engaging in Live Ball is not just an exhilarating experience; it’s also a great way to improve your skills quickly while enjoying the communal spirit of the sport.

Playing pickleball indoors at Carlsbad is no different than playing outdoors except for a few minor rule adaptations. If a ball hits the ceiling, it’s deemed out.
