Dr. Kim Baldwin started flying drones in 2015 and on day 2 of flying her drone she accidentally triggered the propellor auto shut off while the drone was in flight. Not only was she able to save her drone, but she went on to teach and use her drones to map ocean projects as a marine biologist.
Key Learnings
- Take the (required) TRUST test to learn the basic rules and laws of flying drones. Don’t know what this is? Learn more on the blog by clicking here.
- Understand BEFORE you start flying drones what Return To Home is and how it works. Updating your return to home height before each flight is key (based on wind, what’s around, etc) and when RTH kicks in, just trust it and let it do it’s thing if you EVER need to rely on it. - If you are considering getting into the professional space to fly drones, tracking your flights and keeping flight records is important.
- In a pinch, you can SHUT OFF your drone in an emergency by grabbing it from the bottom and flipping it over
