Do People Decorate Their Doors on Virgin Voyages?

If you’ve cruised before—especially on lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival, or Disney—you might be wondering if that same door-decorating tradition is alive and well on Virgin Voyages.

You know what I’m talking about: customized signs, themed magnets, even the occasional inflatable flamingo taped to a cabin door.

So… do people decorate their doors on Virgin Voyages?

Let’s break it down—because my honest opinion might surprise you.

First, the basics: Are the doors magnetic?

Yes! The cabin doors on Virgin Voyages are magnetic, so if you’re thinking of bringing a magnet or two, they will stick.

A lot of people get excited when they hear this because it opens up the idea of bringing custom décor, cruise countdown signs, or cabin number identifiers.

But here’s the thing…

Virgin Voyages doesn’t encourage door decorating

Virgin Voyages doesn’t support or promote door decorating—and for good reason. While it might seem like a fun way to personalize your space or help you find your room after Scarlet Night, there’s a downside.

Cabin attendants have been known to remove decorations, especially if they’re bulky, taped on, or hanging from the handle or peephole. Virgin’s stance is pretty clear: their ships are intentionally designed to look sleek, stylish, and modern. Decorations can lead to unsightly damage, whether it’s scratches from heavy magnets or residue left behind from tape or adhesives.

FYI People Decorate Doors Anyway

Like hiding cruise ducks (originating from an 11 year old child on Carnival Cruise)…

Many people choose to opt in for decorating their doors anyway.

Tbh, I’ve never seen anyone “publicly” shame anyone, but people get very involved with their decor.

My honest take on all of this

To be honest, I have seen lots of doors decorated on Virgin Voyages, so yes—it does happen. People bring magnets, name signs, birthday banners, you name it.

But I’ve DEFINITELY seen it damaging doors.

I’ve also seen a ton of plastic balloons being left behind for yet… more trash… at the end of a sailing.

And one last thing… everyone will focus on that ONE DOOR with an upside down pineapple as though every door has it. On four different sailings, I’ve walked every floor and seen every door. I counted one or two to doors on each sailing with an upside down pineapple, but people will focus 99% of their attention on this 1% of doors.

Why did I walk every floor? I gave out tons of welcome gifts! Read more on that here.
