Advice I Wish I Had as a New Creator

I had the opportunity to speak to the 10th and 11th grade girls that will be our future drone pilots at EIS San Diego about opportunities they can have with their drones as a travel creator.

I thought back to when I first become a drone pilot and how I went through a lot of trial and error in what I created. To often we jump to the “what” without stepping back, considering WHY and thinking bigger picture.

4 Things I wish I knew when I started creating

1. Focus on what you love

Hone in on what you REALLY love by TRYING to create a lot of things. And then really ask yourself what you naturally gravitate to. Then STICK to that and do it over and over and over and over.

Too often I see creators “make a bunch of stuff” and then “one thing randomly hits and does well”, so we do more of it.. and meh, we’re not that into it, but “it works”.

Later you’re stuck with a J-O-B creating around things that you’re kinda so-so about.

For me: I love the ocean. I fly my drones at the ocean. I scuba dive a lot. I travel the most to island and beach destinations.

Wanna know what happens? All the work and opportunities I get are at the beach and guess who is STOKED about it?

2. Post a lot, even when you suck

When you post from the beginning and you take your audience ALONG for the journey, it’s so cool to show the world your growth. Bringing people along for the ride means you’ve got your ride-or-die’s that support you.

It’s an AMAZING feeling to have the support I have here. To know SO many of you have watched me grow as a creator that still stumbles and falls on my face constantly, but can say .. “oh well I knew Christine when she just got started…”

3. Don’t just be consistent, but show up on as many platforms as you can

Each platform has a totally different audience. And if you draw circles that represent each platform’s audience, many times… those circles DO NOT overlap with each other.

So for each platform you choose NOT to be on, you are saying NO to an audience that COULD be loving your work. You could be saying NO to opportunities that COULD HAVE come your way.

Wanna know what platform my opportunities come from? All of them.

4. When you are SEEN doing something or creating something you love – you are ENCOURAGING others

You never know who you are inspiring. Seriously.
