Can you bring your drone to the Bahamas? You can, but there are required steps.
If you’re considering bringing your drone to the Bahamas, this post will give you the helpful tips and what to know!
1. Bahamas Aviation Authority Drone Request
While I think hearing about other pilot’s experiences is an important part of the process, my first step is always to start with the government website.
Namely, I look for the equivalent of the USA’s FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and in the case of the Bahamas, it’s the Bahamas Aviation Authority.
Start by filling out their Bahamas drone request form (they will ask for more info later) on their website which asks for information like which drone you have and it’s weight.
For some helpful tips on HOW to fill out the form (check out the video below!)
2. Respond to email for more drone registration information
After filling out the request form, (I personally heard back) in one business day, an email requesting additional info (drone serial number, registration, dates, etc).
After sending this back, the Bahamas Aviation Authority will process it and then send you a confirmation letter (that I printed and keep with my drone gear).
“Am I supposed to register my drone?”
-Asked by every new drone pilot
The short answer: if you have a Mavic Mini, it’s not required. If you have a “larger drone” OR if you are using your drone for commercial purposes (i.e. making money off it), then yes. The video below provides more information.
Is it worth bringing a drone?
The Bahamas is one of the MOST beautiful places to fly a drone. To see a short capture of the BEST things I saw with my drone, see the video below.

Bottom line
I was surprised by how easy the process was and I was VERY surprised I didn’t have to pay anything. Once I got to the airport, I expected a conversation with customs, but that wasn’t the case (they just waved me on).
How is it flying in the Bahamas? More on that coming soon!
